DEFEND OUR LIBERTIES! NO TO THE POLITICS OF FEAR!
An open forum hosted by Hywel Williams MP.
Venue: House of Commons, Grand Committee Room. London.
The government is proposing yet more anti-terror laws, extending its general attack on civil liberties and the right to protest. Even without new laws, the existing powers are being used even more to persecute migrant and Muslim communities. The government has detained terror suspects with the aim to deport them to countries notorious for systematic torture.
Through a politics of fear, we are being frightened to abandon our liberties in the name of protection from terrorist attack. In reality these anti-terror measures make us less secure, bringing us closer to a police state. Now more than ever, everyone is needed to demonstrate their opposition.
Speakers include Mike Mansfield QC; Louise Christian; Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed, author of “War on Truth”, Executive director of Institute of Policy Research and Development; Lord Rea; Mark Oaten MP; Judith Vidal-Hall, editor of Index on Censorship; Bill Bowring, barrister and professor of Human Rights and International Law, Director of HRSJ, London Metropolitan University; Doug Jewell, Liberty Campaigns Co-ordinator, Lindsey German, Stop The War Coalition: Ben Hayes, Statewatch; Lynne Featherstone MP; Saghir Hussain, Stop Political Terror.
