3) New JNV Media Project
Dear friends
We've continued placing materials on the JNV website <www.j-n-v.org> which we hope you will find useful. Some things we've put up in the last few days are listed below.
1) Muslim solidarity
JNV is continuing with the programme of activity we set out in the Counter Terror: Build Justice statement which we circulated late last year:
solidarity with the victims of terrorism and violence, both here and abroad
solidarity with Muslims and others threatened by the Islamophobic backlash
resistance to repressive legislation and military adventurism
educating people about the realities of the threat we face
With the arrest of a relative of one of the bombers, and the identification of several of the bombers by the police as British Muslims, the need for solidarity with British Muslims is greater than ever.
One of the most worrying facts to come out in the last few days is that _one in five_ of people in Britain regard _Islam itself_ (not Islamic fundamentalism, or Islamic extremism) as a 'major threat' to British democracy. (We discuss this poll on our site: <http://tinyurl.com/8xe2k>)
JNV is printing Muslim solidarity badges (an image is on our website) and urges everyone to organise silent vigils outside mosques or Muslim community centres in their areas. We have put some suggestions on how to organise such events (and some pdfs of possible placards to use) on our website: <http://tinyurl.com/97zy9>
2) London Vigil on Thursday
Justice Not Vengeance (JNV) is calling on anti-war activists to form a silent peace section of the TUC-Mayor of London event in Trafalgar Square on Thursday at 6pm.
Details of the official events from <http://www.tuc.org.uk/londonunited>.
JNV asks anti-war activists to come with white armbands, to immediately in front of the National Gallery facing Trafalgar Square, at 6pm.
This is a silent vigil.
Mobile on the day: 07980 748 555.
Information in advance: 01424 428 792.
3) Pressurising the Media
If you would like to help try to get important information into the media, please spare five minutes to visit <http://tinyurl.com/a96f4> to consider a new project that we are trialling.
Please let us know if you think it is worthwhile, and/or if you have improvements to suggest. <info@j-n-v.org> We are still keeping up with our Media Review every day.
Many thanks for your messages of support.
Best wishes in all your work,
Maya Evans
